Site Description:

Goat Island is located nearly half-way between Gavins Point Dam and Ponca State Park on the 59-mile reach of the Missouri National Recreation River. The Island is nearly 4 miles long and has a varied landscape of forest and sandy shores, all open to the public. The Missouri River flows on either side but the main channel is to the south. It is difficult to say when the island was formed, but the beginnings of an island can be seen on maps as far back as 1892.
